Pets get cabin berths on new Spirit of Tasmania ferries
New Spirit of Tasmania ferries offer 18 pet cabins, outdoor pet deck, and 45 climate-controlled kennels from September 16.
Pet owners crossing Bass Strait no longer have to leave animals in kennels or parked vehicles. The new vessels feature 18 cabins designed for cats and dogs to stay alongside their owners, plus an outdoor deck where dogs can breathe sea air.
The ships also have 45 climate-controlled kennels in a dedicated pet area with CCTV monitoring and regular welfare checks. Pet cabin tickets go on sale from September 16 at 10am.
There are breed restrictions and a maximum of two pets per cabin. Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the upgrade reflects that pets are now part of family holidays.
