Wolverine: great character, tedious fights
Insomniac's Wolverine has excellent character work but repetitive, unchallenging combat that feels like a chore.
Liam McIntyre's Logan and some exquisite character art shine in Wolverine's opening hours. The combat, the heart of the game, feels smooth and empowering, though there is rarely any need to be creative or experimental.
Every fight plays the same way: spam the basic barrage attack, unlock a few fancy combos, and watch identical enemy types fall. The game gives you a rage meter that makes you nearly invincible, but there's no reason to experiment or think tactically.
Spider-Man's three games encouraged beautiful, varied fighting. Wolverine just asks you to bludgeon your way through, like an 80s arcade brawler.
A disappointing waste of a beloved Marvel stalwart.

Why it mattersIf you loved Insomniac's Spider-Man games, this shows why great characters alone cannot save a game when its core gameplay feels like a grind.
AustraliaPlayStation 5 owners and Marvel fans in Australia looking for a worthy follow-up to the Spider-Man trilogy now have a well-made but ultimately unsatisfying option.
