Floriade fee changes leave stallholders reconsidering return
Floriade changed from flat vendor fees to commission-based charges, doubling organiser revenue while costs squeeze stallholders.
The flower festival's revenue from vendors jumped from $197,780.91 in 2024 to $402,179.89 in 2025 after switching from fixed pitch charges to taking a cut of each stall's sales. Stallholders report declining profits despite overall venue attendance up 10.4% and vendor gross revenue up 27.8%.
Yahya Salah has sold at Floriade for 20 years. Rising costs mean he cannot pass them to price-conscious customers and sees profit shrink each year.
Several vendors said they would decide on returning next year based on how the final week trades and whether organisers adjust their fee model.
