Outer Canberra saves more than $178m through household green scheme
Outer suburbs claimed 55% of loans under the scheme and saved more than $178 million.
Outer Canberrans are the biggest users of the ACT's Sustainable Household Scheme. Belconnen and Tuggeranong account for 55% of all loans taken.
The program has helped one in eight homes across Canberra cut energy bills and emissions. Residents use the loans for electric heating, heat pumps, cooktops, vehicles, charging points and insulation.
Savings from lower bills and fuel costs now exceed more than $178 million. The scheme recently raised its maximum loan to $20,000 and added e-cargo bikes as an option.
Finance Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith said outer suburbs benefit most because residents own free-standing homes with more room for upgrades and stronger interest in cutting travel costs. The $2,000 minimum loan stays unchanged.
