Wollongong Council approves MacCabe Park skate park despite local objections

Wollongong Council approved skate parks at MacCabe and WF Jackson parks, moving to construction this financial year.

The council moved ahead with skate parks despite objections from the Friends of MacCabe Park group. The group wanted the facility relocated closer to the cenotaph.

Planning began two years ago and the MacCabe Park site was chosen in October last year. The facility will host major competitions and events.

It will include water refill stations, bicycle parking and spectator areas. Tender applications close October 20.

The council's acting Lord Mayor said negative views of skate parks are outdated. The facilities are well-used by all ages.

Public feedback will be sought once designs are final.
