Vocational subjects now give Queensland students higher ATAR scores
Queensland vocational students can now achieve higher ATAR scores when combining trade with general subjects.
Queensland senior students can now study trade courses and still get an ATAR. To qualify, students must pass maths and English and complete four general subjects.
The Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre converts vocational subjects into ATAR scores. This can help improve their overall ATAR.
At Queensland University of Technology, a trade diploma can be worth up to 87. At the University of Queensland it can be worth up to 82.
Universities including Griffith now guarantee entry to certain courses for students with trade qualifications. Applications using trade scores grew by 18 per cent in the past two years.
Direct entries from trade qualifications increased 21.2 per cent since 2024.
