Break-in forces cancellation of veterans family fun day
Belconnen veterans support centre broken into overnight, vandalised and ransacked; scheduled children's event cancelled.
Thieves broke into the Veterans Support Centre in Belconnen early Sunday morning, October 25, forcing open the front door and cutting through security mesh. The intruders made off with a laptop and several computer monitors before extensively damaging the building with graffiti and vandalism.
The break-in forced cancellation of the Once Upon a Time Family Fun Day scheduled for that afternoon. Staff said they were devastated after all the time, effort and love that had gone into organising this special day for veterans, families and the community.
Staff said families were disappointed to miss "a day of fun, laughter and fairytale magic". ACT Policing is investigating and urges anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
