Newcastle police bolster presence for NRL grand final weekend
Newcastle police will deploy extra officers across the city this weekend as fans gather for Sunday's NRL grand final.
Police will focus on the McDonald Jones Stadium live site, the CBD, entertainment areas and licensed venues. Acting Superintendent Kristin Marshall said police want fans to celebrate safely.
Officers will include highway patrol, riot squad, transport command and marine area command. Police are urging people to plan travel ahead and use public transport where possible.
Arrange a safe way home if you plan to drink. Drivers should slow down and watch for pedestrians crossing roads and moving between venues.
