Cataract Gorge restaurant returns to Launceston October 15
The Gorge Restaurant at Cataract Gorge in Launceston will reopen October 15 under new operator Iain Gunn.
The Gorge Restaurant at Cataract Gorge will reopen on October 15. The restaurant has been closed since April 2025.
The venue's kiosk already reopened last week under Basin Cafe operator Gunn and Parkinson. The restaurant will open only Thursday to Saturday nights by booking.
It will also offer Friday to Sunday lunches. Special events can be booked throughout the week.
The City of Launceston spent $300,000 restoring the 130-year-old building. Mayor Matthew Garwood said it was sliding down the hill.
Operator Iain Gunn said he was thrilled to reopen it. His late father-in-law opened the venue as a restaurant in the early 1970s and ran it for 14 or 15 years.
