Launceston community fundraises for 11-month-old Harlin's rare cancer battle
An 11-month-old boy with rare cancer is fighting in Melbourne, and Launceston locals are fundraising to support his family.
Baby Harlin was diagnosed at six months with a malignant rhabdoid tumour in his chest; his left lung had collapsed from fluid. Harlin has undergone chemotherapy, chest drains and six weeks of radiotherapy in Melbourne, and the tumour is shrinking.
Harlin's parents broke their lease and paused work to stay with him. Juanita and Peter Simpson, locals who organised a fundraiser, held Help for Harlin on Saturday, September 19.
The event at the Ravenswood Over 50s Club runs 1pm to 5pm with a $10 cover charge, raffles, music, food and donated prizes. Local businesses have contributed gift vouchers to the auction.
