Richmond and four clubs chase Port Adelaide's No.5 draft pick
Richmond, Essendon, Carlton and West Coast are competing for Port's compensation pick, created by Zak Butters' trade.
Richmond is among a suite of clubs strongly interested in Port Adelaide's No.5 draft pick, with the Tigers keen to secure top-end selections before Tasmania enters the draft next year. Port is shopping the pick after landing a major trade on Friday that then saw the club decline to match a free agency bid for Zak Butters, earning them the compensation selection.
Richmond already holds pick No.2 this season and is understood to be in serious discussions with Port. Essendon, Carlton and West Coast have also flagged interest.
Port's strategy allows them to cover a No.1 pick bid for prospect Dougie Cochrane using picks No.7 and 12, making the No.5 pick surplus. Richmond would likely use their future first-round pick and pick No.22 this year to get a deal done.
North Melbourne has also shown interest as it works on trades for Nick Blakey and Nick Murray.
