Prime Minister Anthony Albanese appointed Siobhan McKenna as Australia's next consul-general in New York. The role is one of the country's most sought-after diplomatic positions.
US court documents named McKenna this year as the 'driving force' behind the plan to reshape Murdoch's family trust. The plan also secures Lachlan Murdoch's control of News Corp and Fox Corporation.
Siobhan McKenna spent two decades at News Corp. Most recently she led Foxtel, Sky News Australia, Kayo Sports, and Binge.
She left in October last year. The role pays around $350,000.
It comes with a substantial entertainment budget and an official residence. McKenna will succeed Heather Ridout, whose four-year term ends in December.
Albanese defended the appointment as merit-based. He cited her experience across private and public sectors.
This is her second government appointment under Albanese. She chairs Australia Post.
