Canberra Food Co-op marks 50 years with cookbook celebrating members

The Canberra Food Co-operative is celebrating its 50th anniversary. A new book documents its history and features over 60 member recipes.

The Canberra Food Co-operative is celebrating 50 years this year. It started in 1976 as a project of the ANU Students' Association.

The co-op has grown into an independent organisation. It now has a bulk food shop, cafe, event space, and community gathering place.

It serves students, foodies, activists, and artists. Volunteers spent 2024 researching the co-op's history, then combined that effort with a cookbook project.

The book is called "Food for People". It tells the co-op's story through member voices.

It includes more than 60 vegetarian recipes, many vegan. Over five decades, the co-op has faced challenges and uncertainty.

But members who value it have helped it through each time. The book is now available for pre-order.
