Emily Warren wins best on ground in netball grand final lost to double overtime
Warren won best on ground in the E-grade grand final but lost to Lions 25-23 after two overtimes.
Emily Warren took home the best on ground medal despite her Kangaroos side falling short in one of netball's cruelest finishes. The Lions won 25-23 after regular overtime failed to settle the Ballarat Football Netball League grand final at City Oval.
A retaken shot by Tia Kinnersly after the siren sent the match to extra time, but a rare tennis-style two-goal advantage rule eventual gave Lions the win. For Warren, it was her first season at East Point.
The disappointment of losing came second to her pride in the club's community. "It's become a family," she said after the match.
"All year, people I didn't even know got around me." She called it one of her best netball seasons ever.
