ACT committee probes Brindabella carpark as part of wider planning enforcement
Canberra's planning committee will examine the college's unauthorised carpark as part of a wider enforcement inquiry.
Brindabella Christian College's carpark will be examined as one of seven sites. The ACT Legislative Assembly is investigating whether the government enforces planning rules fairly.
Committee chair Jo Clay warned of a risk. Approving the carpark through a draft plan amendment could set a bad example.
It could appear to reward breaking the rules instead of following proper process. The carpark is on land zoned for public open space.
It was built without approval. Approving it would allow future proposals to go through the normal development process.
It would not automatically make the existing structure legal. Court proceedings are already examining the case.
