Detective Amy Scott honoured for courage at Bondi Junction stabbing
NSW Police Detective Amy Scott won a global bravery award from the International Association of Women Police for her response during the 2024 Bondi Junction stabbing rampage.
Scott received the award at a ceremony in Bali on Sunday, recognised among eight officers worldwide for exemplary bravery and dedication. Detective Amy Scott shot and killed Joel Cauchi on 13 April 2024 as he carried out a stabbing rampage at Westfield Bondi Junction.
Six people were fatally stabbed and others injured. Scott was the first police officer on the scene and ran into the shopping centre alone, knowing an armed attacker was inside.
She drew her firearm from just 6.5 metres away as Cauchi ran towards her with a knife. At an inquest in 2025, Scott described feeling nauseous as she entered, believing she might die.
Countless lives were saved because of her bravery.
