Barnaby Joyce pins inflation on renewable energy spending
Joyce blamed renewable energy investment for driving inflation during a debate with Labor MP Josh Burns.
On Monday, Barnaby Joyce and Josh Burns clashed on Sunrise about government spending and inflation. Joyce said Labor's extra $60 billion in annual spending fuels price rises.
Renewable energy projects are a key culprit, according to Joyce. Joyce argued One Nation would cut climate measures and redirect funding to coal-fired power instead.
Burns defended the spending, saying it builds skills, homes and medicines. He warned that stopping renewable investment would waste public funds already committed.
The debate comes as the interest rate sits at 4.6 per cent. Inflation remains a problem despite government budget cuts to disability and aged care.
Treasurer Jim Chalmers has signalled little cost-of-living relief in the next budget.
