Melbourne's tram drivers finish second-last at Warsaw championship
Melbourne's two tram drivers competed against 26 teams at the European TramDriver Championship in Warsaw, finishing second-last in precision tasks.
Twenty-six tram driver teams from across Europe competed in Warsaw on Saturday. The event tested real skills through six tasks.
The six tasks included smooth stops with a water bowl on the tram. Other tasks were speed control at 25 km/h, target braking, tram bowling, lateral distance, basketball, and a perfect stop with the second door.
A reverse ride guided by whistle commands was also part of the test. Melbourne's Tramaroos, Ivan Cavanagh and Claudia Barrientos, came second-last, just ahead of London.
Prague's Vendula Tmejová and Zdeněk Rychtář took the title. About 80,000 people watched the livestream.
Australia was the first non-European country invited to compete in 2022. Melbourne will host the next championship in 2027.
