19km Blue Mountains trail opens ancient valley to hikers
The Grand Cliff Top Walk is a 19km hiking trail through the 250-million-year-old Jamison Valley escarpment.
A new walking trail links Wentworth Falls, Leura and Katoomba over 19 kilometres. The Grand Cliff Top Walk curves around the Jamison Valley escarpment.
It's a sandstone canyon 250 million years old. The trail has waterfalls, lookouts and historic sites.
It's graded for most ages and fitness levels. Some bushwalking experience helps.
The Parks service suggests splitting it into two days: 11km from Wentworth Falls to Gordon Falls (5-7 hours), then 8km to the Three Sisters at Katoomba (4-5 hours). The path was forged in the late 1800s by ranger Peter Mulheran.
It's still dotted with old wells, sleepers and stone ovens.
