Fuel prices spike 36 cents on Middle East crisis
Unleaded petrol jumped 36 cents per litre and diesel 38 cents in one month, blamed on Middle East conflict.
Fuel prices in south-west Victoria have shot up sharply as tensions in the Middle East drive global oil costs higher. Petrol station owner Peter Anderson said unleaded jumped 36 cents per litre and diesel 38 cents in the past month alone.
In Warrnambool, unleaded now ranges from 229.9 to 236.6 cents per litre, with diesel from 279.9 to 294.0 cents. Families are feeling the pinch, particularly in rural areas where public transport is scarce and people must drive for work and school runs.
Former Victorian premier Denis Napthine, buying fuel in Warrnambool, said the rise was significant and would hit families on tight budgets hardest. Anderson warned there is no relief in sight.
