Belle and Sebastian marked 30 years as a band by returning to Melbourne with a five-star performance. Stuart Murdoch and his eight bandmates played the classic album If You're Feeling Sinister in full, moving from delicate recorded versions to vibrant live arrangements.
Murdoch opened solo on many songs before the band built around him. Lead guitarist Stevie Jackson switched to harmonica on Me and the Major, his movements a blur.
The crowd danced from the opening song and rose to their feet for Get Me Away, I'm Dying. A second set mixed some deeper cuts with recent songs, finishing with Another Sunny Day.
Murdoch sprinkled the night with his signature humour, joking about Victoria slogans and taking medication on stage.
