Warilla to get $116 million apartment tower with 29 affordable homes
NSW has fast-tracked approval for a $116 million development in Warilla. It will have three towers with 186 apartments total. Of these, 29 will be affordable housing.
A new high-rise development called The Gateway - Warilla has won approval from NSW as State Significant Development. It will replace a car wash on Shellharbour Road.
The building will be 14 storeys tall with 186 apartments and street-level cafes. Of those apartments, 29 will be affordable housing for lower-income renters.
Developer Hartell Pty Ltd calls it a catalyst for renewal in an area that has had little new housing in recent years. The site needs rezoning to allow the 48-metre height.
A detailed environmental study will happen before final approval. Nearby areas like Calderwood and Tullimbar have grown fast, but Warilla has fallen behind.
