Freestone wins best-on-ground after head clash and nosebleed
South Launceston co-captain Liana Freestone was named best-on-ground in the NTFA women's grand final despite a head collision that left her bleeding.
Halfway through the final quarter of Saturday's NTFA Premier League women's grand final, Freestone just clashed heads with Deloraine's skipper and blood gushed from her nose. Freestone was led from the ground but returned wearing a different number.
After the match, wearing her blood-stained number six, she was announced best-on-ground. The 22-year-old had kicked two crucial goals: her first in the second term, her second early in the final quarter when South Launceston trailed by 10 points.
The team went on to win. "I don't really want to know what the outcome of my nose is, but we'll worry about that later," Freestone said.
