Judge permits summons of Andrew in fraud trial
A UK judge ruled Andrew can be called as a witness in a fraud trial.
Justice Adam Johnson determined that Turkish businessman Selman Turk can compel the former Duke of York to give evidence at the High Court. Turk, a former Goldman Sachs banker, is being sued by Nebahat Isbilen, who alleges he tricked her into making a £750,000 payment to Mountbatten-Windsor in 2019; the sum was repaid.
Mountbatten-Windsor is not accused of wrongdoing. The judge noted it is highly unlikely the former royal would voluntarily give a statement.
A witness summons would probably be needed. The ruling came weeks after Mountbatten-Windsor won a separate case against Thames Valley police over unlawful searches of his Norfolk home.
