Tim Read was the first non-Labor politician to win the Brunswick seat. Ellen Sandell, his parliamentary colleague, paid tribute.
She called him brilliant. She noted his willingness to speak truth to power.
This included getting arrested for activism before his election or challenging the premier during Question Time. In January, he announced he would retire at the next state election following his diagnosis.
