Tobias Moran sues NSW Police after his 2022 charges were withdrawn
Moran spent 10 days in custody and 10 months under bail conditions before charges were withdrawn.
Tobias Moran has filed a civil case against NSW Police in the NSW District Court. Moran says he is innocent and that police acted for improper reasons.
Moran was charged in 2022 over the 2005 death of his girlfriend Simone Strobel in Lismore. Moran spent 10 days in custody and 10 months under bail conditions before the charges were withdrawn a year later.
The court ordered the state of New South Wales to pay Moran's legal costs of $190,000. In late 2025, State Coroner Teresa O'Sullivan overturned an earlier inquest finding.
The coroner said Moran could not be completely ruled out as a suspect, but that he was unlikely to have acted alone. Compensation is being sought, but no figure has been given.
The civil case is listed for January 27, 2027.
