Woman bites officer in arrest after Adelaide hit-and-run spree

A 32-year-old woman is accused of hitting four cars across Adelaide. She allegedly punched and bit police as they arrested her.

A 32-year-old woman from Pookara allegedly caused a chain of crashes across Adelaide's northern suburbs just after midnight on Sunday. She hit a car on Montague Rd at Ingle Farm and fled, then crashed into three more vehicles.

One crash was a head-on collision with a Mini Cooper on Mann Rd at North Adelaide. The other driver went to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A member of the public reported the RAV4 was driving dangerously on the wrong side of the road. As police closed in, the woman allegedly became violent.

She punched one officer many times and bit another on the finger. Police say neither officer was seriously hurt.

She will likely face charges including three counts of driving without due care, three counts of dangerous speed, two counts of failing to stop at a crash scene, and assault of a prescribed emergency worker.

Why it mattersHit-and-run drivers who become violent during arrest put police at serious risk. When suspects resist apprehension, officers face dangerous situations while performing their duties.

AustraliaA family in Adelaide's north had one person hospitalised after the crashes. Police are investigating a dangerous driver now in custody.
