Canberra burglar sentenced to 7+ years for nearly 30 break-ins
Daniel Robert Weldon was sentenced to just over seven years for 15 aggravated burglaries across Canberra.
A series of late-night break-ins targeted nearly 30 Canberra businesses. Daniel Robert Weldon, 49, was sentenced to just over seven years in prison with a non-parole period ending in December 2028.
Weldon wore a black-and-white Scream mask. He carried out raids with accomplices whose names are unknown.
At Brew & Brew Café, he spent over an hour using a crowbar. He tried to tamper with an ATM.
He stole a safe containing $6,500. He also stole a $1,000 tip jar.
At KFC Fyshwick, he stole $1,850 from a safe. At FishCo Fish Market, he stole $2,380 in staff pay packets.
During other raids, Weldon and accomplices made off with laptops. They stole up to $10,000 in cigarettes and tobacco.
Justice Louise Taylor described the crime spree as an extensive criminal enterprise. It caused significant loss to local businesses.
