Carnarvon and Busselton cancel Pride events as volunteer shortage deepens
Pride parades in Carnarvon and Busselton have been cancelled. They lack enough volunteers. But Pilbara's festival still attracts 1,500 people.
Carnarvon's Queernarvon parade ended after three years. Most committee members moved away or stepped down.
Busselton's Pride was also cancelled, redirecting resources toward education and wellbeing. The Pilbara Pride Festival started as a games night among friends.
It now draws about 1,500 people across Port Hedland, Karratha and Onslow. Local government and mining companies support the festival.

He said the cancellation removed a rare space. People could discuss life experiences with others facing similar challenges.
