Coogee shark attack survivor's skin graft fails in recovery setback
Shark attack survivor Leah Stewart says her skin graft failed in a setback to her recovery.
Leah Stewart, 35, was attacked by a great white shark at Coogee in June. After the attack, she needed 11 surgeries and spent 11 days in a coma.
Leah Stewart lost her arm and suffered multiple bite wounds and fractures. A skin graft applied to her left leg has now failed.
In an Instagram update on Tuesday, she said the failure left her devastated. She remains hopeful because she is becoming less reliant on the portable wound therapy machine she has used daily.
The raw areas where doctors took healthy skin are still healing, but slowly.
