Hundreds of residents gathered in Deniliquin on Friday to protest the NSW government's plan to end firewood collection. For 16 years, families have collected wood from two national parks with a permit.
MP Helen Dalton led the campaign to reverse the ban. Ms Dalton called it a cost-of-living issue for families who heat with wood.
Ms Dalton said the government made a promise in 2010. Communities would not be hurt when state forests became national parks.
