Counting on a plane wins Launceston man free coffee for life
Andrew Towner guessed the antique spoon count within 18 of the correct answer and won free daily coffee.
Andrew Towner, a superannuation consultant, won Samuel Pepy's Cafe competition after three months of entries. The cafe asked customers to count antique spoons lining both floors.
Towner's guess came within 18 of the correct total of 1888. About 2000 entries qualified for the final draw by guessing within 25.
Towner revealed his tactic: he took photos and counted the spoons while on a plane during a recent holiday. The cafe owners were thrilled.
He visits most mornings and sometimes helps put furniture out. A co-owner said: "I wanted someone to win who was within the community.
He's going to be having coffee like the staff do now."
