One Palestinian, one Israeli killed in West Bank violence before Yom Kippur
A Palestinian was shot dead trying to ram Israeli troops. In a separate incident a gunman killed an Israeli settler.
Israeli soldiers shot dead a Palestinian man in the Ganim area of the northern West Bank on Sunday. The man tried to ram them with a car, Israeli authorities said.
In a separate incident the same day, an Israeli settler named Netanel Shakron was killed in Neveh Tzuf. A gunman fired at him from a vehicle and fled.
An Israeli soldier nearby returned fire and wounded the gunman, who was later captured at a hospital. Netanel Shakron's death was the second time an Israeli civilian was killed in a confrontation with a Palestinian this year, according to the UN.
Two Palestinians were also wounded in a settler attack the same day. Tensions in the West Bank have gotten worse since October 2023.
More than 1,100 Palestinians have been killed since then. Over 80 Palestinian deaths occurred this year alone, roughly a quarter by settlers.
