Man charged with 55 offences linked to Magill Youth Centre abuse
A 73-year-old man faces 55 charges for alleged sex offences against 29 victims over 25 years at the now-closed centre.
Police arrested a 73-year-old Adelaide man on Thursday. The man was charged with multiple counts of rape, unlawful sexual intercourse, sexual abuse of a child, gross indecency and indecent assault.
The alleged offences occurred at Magill Youth Training Centre between 1978 and 2003. The 29 victims were often children at the time.
The man was not a former employee or government worker but had access to the facility. He will appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court Thursday afternoon.
The arrest is the first result of Task Force Libero. This state police task force was set up in March 2025 to investigate historical child sexual abuse claims at Magill and other government care facilities.
Detectives began the investigation in December 2023 before the task force's formal launch.
