Two Iranians charged with plotting bomb attack on Manchester Jewish sites
Two Iranian nationals were arrested in September for allegedly planning a bomb attack on Jewish targets in Manchester, directed from Iran.
Two Iranian nationals appeared in a London court charged with plotting terrorist attacks using a homemade bomb against Jewish targets in Manchester. Rahman Salehi, 34, and Salam Ahmadyan, 36, were arrested on September 20 during Yom Kippur, Judaism's holiest day.
Prosecutors said they surveyed potential targets including the Manchester Jewish Museum and Heaton Park synagogue. That synagogue was attacked almost a year ago, killing two Jewish worshippers.
A third party believed to be Iranian and operating from within Iran allegedly directed the plot. This person gave bomb-making instructions.
Salehi arrived in Britain in 2020 and got asylum. Ahmadyan came in 2023 and his asylum claim was still pending.
Neither entered a plea and both were held in custody until October 23.
