Josh Hinton will cook his grandmother's curry on stage at Sydney Opera House
The show began in Wollongong's MerrigongX program in 2024 and reaches the Opera House from October 14.
The play, A Place in the Sultan's Kitchen, has Josh Hinton cooking a giant pot of chicken curry on stage. The curry is his grandmother's recipe, which he follows to the letter.
Hinton's grandmother was born in India and grew up in Iran. Hinton spent two hours talking with his grandmother about her history.
What began as the story of his grandmother became a look at Hinton's own cultural identity. Hinton wondered whether he was Iranian or Indian.
The show has already played Wollongong's main stage at IPAC and the Brisbane Festival.
