NZ mare Ohope Wins euthanised after fall in Caulfield Cup

Ohope Wins was euthanised on-course after suffering injuries in a fall 200m from the finish.

New Zealand mare Ohope Wins was put down by Racing Victoria's on-course vet after a fall in the Caulfield Cup today. With about 200 metres to go, 2025 Melbourne Cup winner Half Yours fell after contact with another horse.

Ohope Wins tripped over the gelding. Racing Victoria said the mare's injuries were too severe to save.

Jockey Jye McNeil and Mark Zahra (who was on Half Yours) were both conscious and alert after the incident and taken to hospital for checks. Half Yours, trained by Tony McEvoy, suffered what appear to be superficial cuts and was able to finish the race without a jockey.

The Caulfield Cup was won by Kingswood.
