NSW grants overhaul strips $9 million from three rural councils
Greater Hume, Federation and Lockhart councils lose $9 million annually under a new NSW Local Government Grants Commission model.
Three Riverina councils stand to lose significant funding. Greater Hume loses $3.86 million, Federation $2.16 million and Lockhart $1.92 million in a single year.
Albury and Wagga councils gain between $1 and $4 million each. The NSW Local Government Grants Commission is altering its methodology.
Greater Hume mayor Lea Parker said she couldn't sleep after the proposal. "We're childcare providers, aged care, housing providers," she said.
