Gas tanker hit in Strait of Hormuz amid Iran shipping standoff
Iran's Revolutionary Guard struck the NV Sunshine gas tanker in the Strait of Hormuz and threatened to pursue all unauthorized vessels.
A liquefied petroleum gas tanker called NV Sunshine came under fire in the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC threatened to pursue all ships using unauthorized transit routes.
The vessel was travelling along a southern shipping route near Oman when this happened. The IRGC shared this via Iran's Tasnim news agency.
Any ship using an unauthorized route will be pursued throughout the region, the IRGC warned, and its punishment will be inevitable. Iran considers the southern route illegal and demands ships pass along the Iranian coast instead.
The IRGC has accused the US military of interfering in shipping and insurance decisions. It says the US pays large bribes to push compliance with non-Iranian routes.
The US Navy has recently escorted civilian merchant vessels with transponders along the route to restore oil and gas shipments.
