$37.4 million road upgrade to transform remote Canberra mountain junction
Snowy Valleys Council is starting a $37.4 million federal-funded upgrade of Brindabella Road, though the Canberra section will not be sealed.
A remote mountain intersection at Piccadilly Circus in the Brindabella Range is about to get its first major upgrade in decades. Later this month, the Snowy Valleys Council will begin a $37.4 million project to seal 10.6 kilometres of Brindabella Road westward from the ACT-NSW border to the Brindabella Valley.
The project is 100 per cent funded by a federal government grant. The road has been talked about for decades, with locals first hearing of plans in the late 1980s.
However, the 8 kilometre unsealed section on the Canberra side of the border will not be upgraded, meaning the new sealed stretch will effectively become an island of bitumen between gravel roads on both sides.
