CNN, Politico and MS NOW sue Trump over White House press ban
Three major US news outlets are suing after being locked out of the White House.
CNN, Politico and MS NOW have notified the Trump administration they are suing over denied White House access. Trump banned the three outlets on Friday, calling their coverage fake news.
Reporters from CNN and MS NOW reported live on Saturday that they had been turned away, their press badges deactivated. Politico's White House reporter also had her credential confiscated.
In a joint statement, the outlets said the White House revoked their journalists' credentials without notice or process. They are defending their First Amendment right to independent reporting free from government interference.
The move escalates Trump's long-running effort to restrict coverage by outlets he dislikes. A statement indicated any outlet could face the same exclusion in the future.
