Judge blocks Trump ban on CNN, Politico, MS NOW as unconstitutional
A federal judge ordered Trump to restore White House access for CNN, Politico and MS NOW, rejecting national security claims.
US District Judge Tim Kelly issued an order after the three news outlets sued on September 18 to challenge a ban Trump announced. Trump said the outlets "constantly write or report FICTION and LIES".
Justice Department lawyers claimed the ban was about national security, but the judge rejected that. The judge said the record lacked evidence that removing press passes would protect national security.
He ordered press passes returned right away and blocked the ban for 14 days. All three outlets had their reporters' credentials taken when they went to the White House on Saturday morning.
