Queensland okays 50-storey towers for Victoria Park Olympic precinct
Queensland government approved a 50-storey height limit for a new 27,000-home precinct in Bowen Hills next to Victoria Park.
Queensland's government has approved a major development plan for Bowen Hills near Brisbane's Victoria Park stadium. The 108-hectare area will hold up to 27,000 homes, up from 23,000 homes under a 2010 plan.
The biggest change is a jump in height limits from 30 to 50 storeys for landmark buildings. The precinct will include boutique breweries, micro-distilleries, restaurants and retail spaces.
This creates a mixed-use neighbourhood. Bowen Hills Train Station sits at the centre.
The showgrounds will become the athlete's village during the 2032 Olympics. The government argues new inner-city housing will free up suburban homes for first-time buyers.
Public consultation on the draft plan runs until 9 October.
