Canberra Community Chest race day raises $65,000 for 12 charities
The Canberra Community Chest race on November 22 will distribute $65,000 across 12 community and charity partners based on horse finishing positions.
Canberra Racing Club and Southern Cross Club have raised the community chest pool to $65,000, up from $50,000. The race on November 22 features 12 horses, each paired with a charity or community partner.
Prize money is distributed based on finishing position. The last-placed horse now wins $2500 instead of $1000.
Eleven partners are already selected, including ACT Volunteer Brigades, Rise Above, Pam's Pantry and Helping ACT. The 12th spot is open to public vote, with results announced November 6.
Once all partners are confirmed, they will randomly select their horse at a black-tie event before the race.
