Sheard jailed 10 years for Gateshead rifle shooting
Emmett Sheard and Dakota Rhianne Clarke were convicted of shooting two people during a planned drug robbery at a Gateshead home.
On September 21, 2023, Sheard concealed a .22 lever-action rifle in his tracksuit and entered a Gateshead home with Clarke. Sheard demanded drugs and money.
Sheard fired five times, wounding a man in the arm with a life-threatening injury and a woman in the leg. The woman was left with a serious wound and lifelong scar.
Clarke attended knowing Sheard had the rifle and physically held a door against one victim during the struggle. A jury convicted both of two counts of shooting with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Judge Jonathon Priestley sentenced Sheard to 10 years with a non-parole period of six-and-a-half years. Clarke received six years with a three-and-a-half year non-parole period.
Sheard can apply for release in December 2030; Clarke can apply from March 2028.
