Morrison earns contract extension playing flexible chess-like role for Hawks
Harry Morrison, a 27-year-old wingman, has secured a contract for next season by playing a flexible, strategically crucial role in Hawthorn's tactics.
Harry Morrison describes himself as a 'pawn' in Hawthorn's game plan, moving across the field to support teammates' attacks. The flexible role has earned the chess enthusiast a new contract and taken him to 137 senior games.
Coach Sam Mitchell also plays chess, and Morrison joked the Hawks should form a club. Morrison kicked the Hawks' last goal in their upset win over Fremantle.
Now he faces Brisbane in Saturday's preliminary final. A year ago, Morrison was sidelined by a quad injury during finals.
This season he played only three games up to round 16 but has not missed a match since, saying it probably set him up to perform in the back half of the year.
