Escaped Tasmanian devil Mary bounces back after Gold Coast recovery
Mary, a young Tasmanian devil who escaped in June, recovered from injuries and returned to her enclosure.
Tasmanian devil Mary captured hearts after making an unusually large leap. She escaped her quarantine enclosure on the Gold Coast on June 2.
Mary was on the run for more than two weeks. Locals spotted her on their driveways at night.
When found, she was dehydrated and too thin. She also had multiple injuries.
She was rushed to emergency care. Almost three months of physical therapy and careful feeding with chicken and kangaroo helped her recovery.
Mary is now back in her public enclosure at Paradise Country wildlife park and exploring with confidence. She recently reunited with her companion Mavca.
Curator Lauren Mousley said the recovery was very long and difficult. But Mary has beaten the odds and improves every week.
