ClearVue tests solar window that powers buildings
ClearVue Technologies has begun testing a photovoltaic window at a Macau hotel that generates electricity while insulating the building.
The Sydney-listed company ClearVue (ASX:CPV) and partner LandVac are replacing a standard window at a subtropical Macau hotel with a new photovoltaic window. The window is designed to generate power and reduce cooling costs.
Environmental sensors will track how much electricity the window makes. ClearVue and LandVac will compare this to air-conditioning energy used in an adjacent room with the old glazing.
ClearVue says the new window is roughly three times as efficient as normal double glazing. It is around 12 times more efficient than old single-pane glass.
The company is also testing photovoltaic cladding panels on the building's façade. These panels will check how they hold up in the humid climate.
