Albury Camera House celebrates 90 years, survives digital upheaval
Albury Camera House, opened by Jack Dallinger in 1936, is now run by its third and fourth generations.
Siblings Mark Dallinger and Nicole Barlow work at their family's photo store on Dean Street, continuing their grandfather Jack's business from 90 years ago. The shop survived wartime rationing, a devastating 1957 fire, and the shift from film to digital.
Today it remains Australia's oldest continuously operating camera store and the only dedicated photo specialist on the Hume corridor between Sydney and Melbourne. In busy years in the late 1990s, it processed 40,000 rolls of film.
Now it sells drones and mirrorless cameras. Younger customers now seek vintage 35mm film and physical prints, reversing decades of digital dominance.
