Thief ran over grandmother, then used her card at McDonald's
Adam Barry, 26, stole Mary Iviglia's car from Casey Hospital. He ran her over and used her bank card to buy food.
Mary Iviglia, 66, was dragged several metres by her own grey SUV. The rear wheel ran her over as thief Adam Barry sped from Casey Hospital in Melbourne's southwest.
Mary Iviglia suffered fractures to her eye socket, cheekbone and ribs and also had a forehead cut. Barry then found her bank card.
He used it at McDonald's to buy cigarettes and food on two separate occasions. Victorian County Court Judge Anthony Lewis called Barry's failure to stop and help "morally reprehensible behaviour".
Barry pleaded guilty to theft, dangerous driving and failing to help. He was jailed for at least two-and-a-half years.
He will be eligible for parole in October 2027. Ms Iviglia's daughter said she was disappointed with how light the sentence was.
